Trailmaps
Many of the biking routes listed around the Aviemore area were discovered using a series of maps developed by Steve Smirthwaite.
We used his original Bikemaps in the development of these rides. These are available in the Tourist Information Offices at Aviemore
& Grantown on Spey, Bothy Bikes and many other local outlets.
They are a collection of several sheets, each of which have
several rides and variations.
In Sept 2007 Steve released a set of improved and updated versions Trailmaps - Strathspey Maps.
They are well worth the money and very detailed indeed in terms of difficulty ratings, distances and gradients. In fact,
they are invaluable! They really compliment the O.S Maps.
In January 2008, Steve produced a new map covering the Abernethy/Nethy
Bridge area. You'll find this useful for our Loch A Chnuic ride and others in the Nethy Bridge area, including a few interesting
trails that we haven't done - yet(!)
You can buy these maps from the outlets mentioned above, or direct from Steve's Trailmaps
website. Visit "Trailmaps" using the link on this page.
Steve also has a huge range of maps for other areas and countries.
Update
Dec 2009: Steve's new Trailmaps website is now online and is really superb - go get yer maps!
O.S & other maps
What do I need?
We use the Ordnance Survey Landranger Maps 27, 35, 36, 42 & 43 for the rides listed on
the pages.
Check with the Tourist Information Offices and other outlets for more specific route maps too, some of which are
mentioned on the following pages.
There are also good "Estate specific" leaflets for Rothiemurchus Estate, Glenlivet Estate etc.
