This is a superb, scenic road ride.
It's a 26 mile there and back ride although you can make it a bit longer or shorter
to suit.
Strathconon lies about 17 miles north west of Inverness between Muir of Ord (Glen Ord Distillery) and Contin.
Entrance to the glen is at Marybank.
We drove into the glen to Scatwell, where we found a parking place.
If you want to extend the ride
there is parking in Marybank but very little in the narrow lane leading to Scatwell.
If you want to shorten the ride, drive in a bit
further to Loch Meig where parking spots become more numerous.
What can we say about this ride except that it is a delightful
road ride in very spectacular scenery, with a couple of lochs and a lovely little hamlet deeper into the glen.
It is undulating
but easy.
There are lots of deer and we spotted a golden eagle. Talking to others we discovered that there is a lot of
varied wildlife in the glen.
The glen has a west coast feel about some of the hills and mountains.
The mountains are high, the
lochs lovely.
At the end of the glen is a carpark but walkers and cyclists are allowed to continue onto the estate trails.
There is a signpost in the carpark for trails to Achnasheen (8 miles) and Achnashellach, so it's hardly surprising that it has a west
coast feel. As the crow flies Loch Maree & Upper Loch Torridon aren't far away.
The glen has lots of notice boards
for walks. We saw a few interesting trails but we're not sure if they are just for walkers and not bikers. Please respect
the wishes of the estate and the residents of the glen.
