The starting point for this is the Visitors Centre car park next to the Spar in Nethy Bridge. You can extend the ride by
10 miles by starting in Grantown on Spey
For this mainly off-road ride of mixed views you'll need OS Map 36.
This is not
a long ride but a great bit of off-roading in the quiet forest. Starting from the Spar, turn right, with the river on your left and
carry on up the road past the church on your right. The road curves to the right and drops down to the Dell Of Abernethy holiday
cottages.
Running parallel to this site is an off-road trail that takes you into the Abernethy Forest. Just keep riding
and enjoy the off-road, which is not difficult by any means. All you'll hear is your bike, birdsong, any mud or puddles you happen
to be going through and your breathing if you're a bit out of condition!
Eventually you'll go up a slight rise and meet the forest
logging road.
Turn left here and carry on until you come to a sign for the sawmill on your right. Just after this is a
metal gate. Take this and a steep climb up to Rynettin, with superb views at the top.
Go past the buildings and when you reach
the end of the fenced field on your left, turn down the hill to the Ryvoan Pass. Great place for a coffee. At the bottom, turn
left and follow the trail back to Forest Lodge.
At this point you continue north by Forest Lodge, passing a few buildings on
your left - have a look at the OS Map. You drop down a hill to a bridge and there is a sign for Nethy Bridge, 3 Miles.
Take this Lyngarrie trail.
This section of off-road is a bit tougher and bumpier in places but a lovely quiet, little used trail.
Eventually the trail bears left and drops down a steep downhill trail - great fun but be careful. Jan actually dropped the bike
on this section so I suppose care is required. You will rejoin the original trail at the bottom. Turn right and return
to Nethy Bridge.
