This is a 16 mile circular route with an extension included to Caggan, approximately 10 miles without the extension. The ride
is a mixture of road and off-road with a couple of short, steep pulls thrown in for good measure.
The route straddles OS Maps
35 & 36 and you can also use Trailmap - Strathspey Map 4 as a guide too although our route is a variation on a theme and runs
in the opposite direction.
Starting from Carrbridge and with the old ruined bridge on your right, head west along the tarmac
lane. Keep an eye open for a gate on your right hand side, high above the river. This has a sign on it relating to cycle
routes. Take this off-road trail which drops down to Sluggan Bridge. When you see the bridge, it looks high enough for
the Queen Mary to pass under it - weird!
Cross the bridge and head off west again up a couple of short steep pulls, keeping the forest
on your right and some wonderful open views on your left.
When you get to Insharn, instead of following the trail right and north,
go through the gate in front of you and then take the trail south for about 3 miles, passing through wonderful open moorland and alongside
the river at times, to Caggan and the bridge.
Return to Insharn and continue north now to the old road by the A9, coming out
by a lodge and biking place.
Turn right to return to Carrbridge - downhill for much of the way and potentially a busy bit of road for
the last couple of miles - keep an eye on the children along here.
